Nikon Corp. engages in the manufacture and sale of optical instruments. It operates through the following segments: Imaging Products, Precision Equipment, Healthcare, and Industrial Metrology and Others. The Imaging Products segment deals with the manufacture and sale of imaging products and peripherals such as digital single-lens reflex cameras, compact digital cameras, and interchangeable camera lenses. The Precision Equipment segment provides products and services for flat display panel (FPD) and semiconductor equipment. The Healthcare segment offers microscopes, cell culture observation devices, and scanning laser ophthalmoscopes. The Industrial Metrology and Others segment includes industrial equipment, glass, and custom products businesses. The company was founded by Koyata Iwasaki on July 25, 1917 and is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.
