Academy Sports eliminates COO role

Academy Sports & Outdoors Inc. /zigman2/quotes/221441945/composite ASO +1.47% said in a filing that it has eliminated the chief operating officer role "in order to create a more efficient operating structure and focus on key strategic priorities." The retailer's current COO, Kenneth Attaway, will leave the company, effective Jan. 29, 2021. Starting on that date, Michael Mullican, Academy's chief financial officer, and Sam Johnson, executive vice president of retail operations, will assume the duties previously held by the COO position. Academy Sports began trading in October 2020.
