The loss was $1.5 million, or a nickel a share, compared with net income of $9.3 million, or 31 cents, in the year-earlier period. Sales rose 9% to $273.2 million from $250.6 million. From continuing operations, the company had a loss of 6 cents a share against profit of 30 cents. The latest period reflected 36 cents of charges for restructuring and other matters.
