British Airways--a member of International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (IAG.LN) -- said on Wednesday that it was cancelling all flights to mainland China with immediate effect.

The airline said all flights to Beijing and Shanghai were cancelled due to the continuing health situation surrounding the outbreak of the corona virus in the country, and following advice from the U.K.'s Foreign Office warning against all but essential travel.

Flights to Hong Kong aren't affected, the airline said.

"We apologize to customers for the inconvenience, but the safety of our customers and crew is always our priority," British Airways said.
