U.S. stocks are once again firmly lower early Wednesday, pressured as a prolonged market volatility spike persists.

The early downturn punctuates a failed test of the breakdown point from underneath — for both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite — against a still comfortably bearish longer-term backdrop, pending repairs.
