Charting the biggest daily downdraft since 1987: S&P 500 stalls at 200-week average

Focus: Market breadth registers off-the-charts bearish extremes across three of prior four sessions, Small- and mid-caps notch multi-year lows

U.S. stocks are higher early Friday, though well off the session’s best levels, rising in the wake of the worst single-day market downdraft since 1987.

Against this backdrop, the S&P 500’s intraday high (2,632) has registered slightly under its 200- week moving average — currently 2,639, detailed previously — and the weekly close will likely add color.
