Shares of entertainment and live event companies rallied in premarket trade Monday, after biotech Moderna Inc. /zigman2/quotes/205619834/composite MRNA -0.08% said a Phase 3 trial of its COVID-19 vaccine achieved 94.5% efficacy, a far higher benchmark than previously expected. AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. /zigman2/quotes/200235402/composite AMC +0.25% , the biggest cinema chain in the world, was up 19%, while Cinemark Holdings Inc. /zigman2/quotes/200040530/composite CNK +1.93% gained 12%. Theme park operator Walt Disney Company /zigman2/quotes/203410047/composite DIS +1.04% was up 1.7%, Six Flags Entertainment Corp. /zigman2/quotes/208050417/composite SIX 0.00% rose 9% and SeaWorld Entertainment Inc. /zigman2/quotes/210357674/composite SEAS +4.33% was up 3%. Live Nation Entertainment Inc. /zigman2/quotes/203077299/composite LYV -1.46% rose 6%. Stocks of companies that offer indoor fun have been hit hard by the pandemic, which has greatly reduced their activities and kept venues shuttered for months. Moderna Inc. was last up 12%.
