French manufacturing sector sentiment rose in January as business leaders became more optimistic about activity in the sector.
Figures from statistic agency Insee's monthly survey on Wednesday showed that manufacturing sentiment increased to 100 in January from 98 in December. The outcome was below economists' consensus forecast of 101 points in a survey by The Wall Street Journal.
The shift in the mood in the eurozone's second-largest economy comes a day after figures showed an improvement in business sentiment in Germany. German Ifo economic expectations reached their highest level since 2015.
Investors will now look ahead to next week's releases to gauge the temperature of consumer sentiment in both France and Germany. The Germany GfK consumer climate survey and France's consumer confidence poll will be released on January 29.
