Jeff Tjornehoj, senior research analyst for Lipper Inc., says that mutual fund firms have "gotten a better handle on risk," which has created an environment where there are fewer scary funds and less potential for a fund firm to have several funds implode simultaneously than there was in the past. In a radio interview, Tjornehoj noted that investors also have shaken down their portfolios to where they tend to hold more trusted issues, making it easier to stay put.
