Gold miner exchange-traded funds surged Thursday as the yellow metal price rose and the dollar softened further. The iShares MSCI Global Gold Miners ETF /zigman2/quotes/208061034/composite RING -1.30% was up 2.6% at midday, while the VanEck Vectors Gold Miners ETF jumped more than 3%. The Sprott Gold Miners ETF /zigman2/quotes/208384943/composite SGDM -1.15% jumped 3.4%. December gold /zigman2/quotes/210039572/delayed GCZ20 +0.29% rose 0.3% to settle at $1,874.30 an ounce Thursday, notching its first gain in four sessions. The gold price has dropped about 10% from its early August peak of $2,069.40. Miner stocks tend to move more dramatically than the price of the underlying metal.
