Huntington, Unizan merger delayed

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- Huntington Bancshares said late Wednesday its merger with Unizan Financial will be delayed because regulators are continuing to review the deal.

Huntington Bancshares /zigman2/quotes/209314988/composite HBAN -1.90% said the merger will likely close after early July.

The Columbus, Ohio-based bank holding company said the Federal Reserve Board is extending its review period to work with the Securities and Exchange Commission, which is conducting its own formal investigation of the merger.

Huntington also said regulators are completing their review of the Community Reinvestment Act aspects of the deal with Unizan , a financial services firm based in Canton, Ohio.

Huntington said it would close the merger as soon as it is able following the review's completion.

Shares of Huntington closed down 19 cents to $21.95 ahead of the announcement.

Unizan shares closed up 16 cents to $25.09.
