Intel nears Infineon wireless unit deal: reports

TOKYO (MarketWatch) -- Chipmaker Intel Corp. /zigman2/quotes/203649727/composite INTC +1.46% is close to reaching a deal to buy German chipmaker Infineon's /zigman2/quotes/204995926/delayed DE:IFX -0.52% /zigman2/quotes/208949526/delayed IFNNF +0.13% wireless unit at a price that could top 1 billion euros ($1.27 billion), according to media reports late Sunday, citing people familiar with the matter. An agreement could be reached early this week, the reports said. On Friday, Intel said it cut its sales forecast, and cited weaker-than-expected demand for personal computers.
