As the U.S. is toppled with not just the coronavirus pandemic, but also racism upsurge, IBM /zigman2/quotes/203856914/composite IBM +1.72% on Monday announced that it will no longer be a part of facial-recognition business. The company's closed at $129.87 yesterday with one of the highest market caps of $115.31 Billion. The company announced that it will put on halt, the facial-recognition software sale, which the privacy groups are calling to be biased and contributing to profiling on the basis of race.

In his letter, the company's new CEO, Arvind Krishna stated, "IBM firmly opposes and will not condone uses of any technology, including facial-recognition technology offered by other vendors, for mass surveillance, racial profiling among other purposes."

The move is seen as a good step towards removing bias, which is all the more important now in the scenario where people are non-tolerant about racial injustice.
