The Trump administration just gave its critics yet another reason to pounce.

Here’s a video of the scene, which has already racked up about 700,000 views:
The clinic later posted a more generic replacement tweet, commending Pence and Minnesota’s Democratic governor, Tim Walz, who did don a mask, for the visit:
The internet, as it tends to do, swarmed on the footage, pushing the #PenceIsAnIdiot hashtag, along with “Mayo Clinic” and ”arrogance,” high on Twitter’s /zigman2/quotes/203180645/composite TWTR +3.83% trending list.
The Mayo Clinic, which has required all patients and visitors to wear a mask in accordance with CDC guidelines since April 13, also caught plenty of flak:
When asked why he decided to go mask-less, Pence told reporters he’s tested regularly, as is everyone around him, so, in his view, he’s not at risk of being a spreader.
“Since I don’t have the coronavirus,” he explained after images of his visit went viral, “I thought it’d be a good opportunity for me to be here, to be able to speak to these researchers these incredible health-care personnel and look them in the eye and say thank you.”
