NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Shares of NYSE Euronext led U.S. financial stocks higher on Friday morning, rising almost 5% after it and Deutsche Boerse (OTC:DBOEY) Friday said they sent a proposal to address the anti-trust concerns of the European Commission over the merger of the two. The Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (PSE:XLF) , which tracks the financial stocks in the S&P 500, added 0.4%. Bank stocks were strong after slipping on Thursday. Bank of America Corp (NYS:BAC) , J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. (NYS:JPM) , Citigroup Inc (NYS:C) , Wells Fargo & Co. (NYS:WFC) , Morgan Stanley (NYS:MS) and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (NYS:GS) all rose.
