Stocks opened sharply lower Monday, extending declines after major indexes logged their biggest weekly falls since 2020. A meeting of Federal Reserve policy makers, which will conclude on Wednesday, remains in focus, with the central bank expected to lay the groundwork for a rate increase at its March meeting. Investors were also keeping a close eye on the threat of a Russian attack on Ukraine. The Dow Jones Industrial /zigman2/quotes/210598065/realtime DJIA -3.57% slumped around 425 points, or 1.2%, to 33,840, while the S&P 500 /zigman2/quotes/210599714/realtime SPX -4.04% was down 1.5% at 4,332 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 1.9% to 13,502.
