The North Face tweeted on Friday that it would be pulling its advertising on Facebook Inc. /zigman2/quotes/205064656/composite FB -1.21% during the month of July in solidarity with civil rights and advocacy groups who say the social media platform isn't taking action to prevent the spread of racist and violent content. The NAACP tweeted a link to an Associated Press story that quotes the chief executive of the group, Derrick Johnson, who calls Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg, the tech company's CEO, "complacent in the spread of misinformation" that is damaging to democracy. In response, The North Face tweeted , "We're in. We're Out @Facebook #StopHateForProfit" along with a link to to a website for the campaign. The North Face is part of VF Corp. /zigman2/quotes/206706147/composite VFC +2.41% , which also counts Timberland and Vans among its portfolio of brands. VF Corp. stock has tumbled 36.5% for the year to date while the S&P 500 index /zigman2/quotes/210599714/realtime SPX +0.02% is down 3.6% for the period.
