U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland on Thursday said the Justice Department is seeking to unseal two documents related to the raid on former President Donald Trump’s Florida resort. So, what would Americans see?
Speaking at DOJ headquarters in Washington, Garland said the agency has filed a motion to unseal both the search warrant and property receipt relating to the Monday search on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence.
CNN legal analyst Elie Honig described what could be seen in the unsealed documents. A warrant, typically, lists things like the place to be searched and a general description of items to be searched for, among other logistical information.
The receipt, meanwhile, would show what was removed from Mar-a-Lago — though the analyst said that could be limited to a number of boxes instead of a “piece-of-paper by piece-of-paper breakdown.”

The FBI’s search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate was part of an investigation into whether the former president took classified records from the White House to his Florida residence.
It was not immediately clear when — or if — the unsealing request might be granted or when the documents could be released, as the Associated Press reported. Trump will also have a chance to object. The Justice Department reportedly has until 3 p.m. Eastern on Friday to report back on whether Trump will oppose the unsealing.
In a social-media post Thursday night, Trump said he would not oppose the unsealing request, and called for the immediate release of the documents.
