U.S. stocks opened lower Monday, declining amid concerns over an economic slowdown in China and a sign of manufacturing weakness in the U.S. economy. The Dow Jones Industrial Average /zigman2/quotes/210598065/realtime DJIA -0.14% and S&P 500 /zigman2/quotes/210599714/realtime SPX -0.20% were each trading down around 0.5% soon after the opening bell, while the Nasdaq Composite /zigman2/quotes/210598365/realtime COMP -0.25% slid 0.3%, according to FactSet data, at last check. U.S. economic data released Monday showed the Federal Reserve Bank of New York's Empire State business conditions index, a gauge of the state's manufacturing activity, has plunged into negative territory this month. U.S. stocks booked gains last week, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq notching their longest weekly win streak since November 2021.
