U.S. stocks opened lower Tuesday as investors watch for U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's potential visit to Taiwan amid tensions between China and the U.S. The Dow Jones Industrial Average /zigman2/quotes/210598065/realtime DJIA +0.27% was trading down 0.4% soon after the opening bell, while the S&P 500 /zigman2/quotes/210599714/realtime SPX +0.55% fell 0.3% and the Nasdaq Composite /zigman2/quotes/210598365/realtime COMP +0.98% dropped 0.6%, according to FactSet data, at last check. Pelosi was expected to arrive in Taiwan Tuesday despite warnings from China against visiting , according to an Associated Press report. A White House spokesman said Monday that the U.S. "will not be intimidated" by China's opposition to Pelosi's potential visit.
