U.S. stocks open sharply lower Tuesday morning after the July 4 holiday

U.S. stocks opened sharply lower Tuesday, with all three major benchmarks falling after the July 4 holiday as recession fears continue to weigh on the market. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DOW:DJIA) was down around 450 points, or 1.5%, soon after the opening bell, while the S&P 500 (S&P:SPX) also fell around 1.5% and the Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQ:COMP) dropped 1.6%, according to FactSet data, at last check. Investors will see fresh data on factory orders at 10 a.m. Eastern Time.
