U.S. stocks opened sharply lower Tuesday, with all three major benchmarks falling after the July 4 holiday as recession fears continue to weigh on the market. The Dow Jones Industrial Average /zigman2/quotes/210598065/realtime DJIA -0.31% was down around 450 points, or 1.5%, soon after the opening bell, while the S&P 500 /zigman2/quotes/210599714/realtime SPX -0.23% also fell around 1.5% and the Nasdaq Composite /zigman2/quotes/210598365/realtime COMP -0.09% dropped 1.6%, according to FactSet data, at last check. Investors will see fresh data on factory orders at 10 a.m. Eastern Time.
