Western Union's profit, sales miss Street views

Western Union Co.'s profit and revenue both fell in the fourth quarter compared with the fourth quarter a year earlier.

Earnings were $135.4 million, down 36%. They were 32 cents a share, down from 48 cents a share.

Adjusted earnings were 38 cents a share, down from 51 cents a share. According to FactSet, analysts were expecting 43 cents a share.

Revenue was $1.31 billion, down 6.7%. Analysts were expecting $1.32 billion.

The company's provision for income taxes was $62.1 million. It was $22.9 million a year earlier.
