The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is urging teens who are at least 12 years old to get vaccinated over concerns about the number of adolescents who are being hospitalized for COVID-19. The Pfizer Inc. /zigman2/quotes/202877789/composite PFE +0.97% and BioNTech SE /zigman2/quotes/214419716/composite BNTX +1.14% vaccine was authorized in mid-May for teens between the ages of 12 and 15 years old. (It had already been authorized for those who are at least 16 years old since December.) "I am deeply concerned by the numbers of hospitalized adolescents and saddened to see the number of adolescents who required treatment in intensive care units or mechanical ventilation," CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said in a statement. Research published Friday by the CDC said COVID-19 hospitalization rates among teens increased in March and April. About 200 teens were hospitalized for COVID-19 in 14 states between January and March of this year, 64 of whom were admitted to the intensive care unit during their stays.
