Cervical dysplasia, also known as cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, is a Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) caused due to human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. This precancerous condition is characterized by uncontrolled growth of endocervical canal cells and is divided into two types depending on the type of cells it impacts – squamous intraepithelial lesion and glandular cell lesions. The condition can affect all age groups and is common in women of 30 years of age or above. Pap test, endocervical curettage, and loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) or HPV DNA test are some of the tests used in the diagnosis of cervical dysplasia.
