Dow climbs more than 600 points, U.S. stocks end sharply higher as Wall Street banks jump

All three major stock benchmarks ended sharply higher Monday, kicking off the week with gains as shares in the financials sector jumped. The Dow Jones Industrial Average /zigman2/quotes/210598065/realtime DJIA +0.73% closed up almost 619 points, or about 2%, while the S&P 500 /zigman2/quotes/210599714/realtime SPX +0.96% climbed around 1.9% and the Nasdaq Composite /zigman2/quotes/210598365/realtime COMP +1.29% rose about 1.6%, according to preliminary FactSet data. The financials sector booked the biggest gains in the S&P 500 index, rising around 3.2% Monday, as Wall Street banks JPMorgan Chase & Co. /zigman2/quotes/205971034/composite JPM +2.25% and Citigroup Inc. /zigman2/quotes/207741460/composite C +2.06% each jumped around 6%, preliminary FactSet data show.
