Getlink SE said Thursday that April passenger traffic sharply rose from a year earlier, but that the pandemic and related restrictions continue to affect its activities.
The French operator of the Channel Tunnel between the U.K. and France reported an 89% increase in passenger vehicles for last month, to 37,111.
"Despite the positive comparison with the traffic levels observed during the first lockdowns in spring 2020, the passenger market continues to be severely impacted by the U.K. and French government travel restrictions imposed due to the Covid-19 pandemic," the company said.
For the January-April period, passenger-vehicle traffic fell 65% from a year earlier, the company said.
Getlink said 113,089 trucks were transported in April, a 42% decrease from a year earlier.
