Jun 23, 2021 (Baystreet.ca via COMTEX) -- Fast food restaurant chain McDonald's /zigman2/quotes/203508018/composite MCD +2.67% announced that its U.S. loyalty program will become available throughout America beginning on July 8.
The program, called "MyMcDonald's Rewards," is only available on its app and gives customers 100 points for every dollar spent. People who sign up will automatically get 1,500 points after their first order using the program, which is enough points for a chicken sandwich, cheeseburger or a vanilla ice cream cone.
Once customers collect 3,000 points, they can be redeemed for chicken nuggets or a large, iced coffee. Large fries or a Filet-O-Fish can be redeemed at 4,500 points and a Big Mac or a Happy Meal is free at 6,000 points.
The burger chain started testing its MyMcDonald's Rewards program late last year in a select number of U.S markets. The company expanded the program last week to some New York City outlets. The loyalty program excludes delivery, McDonald's said in a news release.
McDonald's Chief Executive Officer Chris Kempczinski said earlier in June that McDonald's expects to have rolled out the new loyalty program in its six biggest markets - including Canada and Germany - by the end of 2022.
McDonald's rivals such as Burger King /zigman2/quotes/202094900/composite QSR -1.87% , Chipotle /zigman2/quotes/200781108/composite CMG +1.01% , Starbucks /zigman2/quotes/207508890/composite SBUX -1.23% and Wendy's each offer loyalty programs. Executives at those chains have credited their respective programs for boosting sales and downloads of their apps.
