Private equity deal activity in July dropped sharply from year-ago level

Private equity and venture capital dollar volume for deals dropped 63% in July to $43.05 billion from $116.47 billion in the year-ago period, S&P Global Market Intelligence said Thursday. The number of deals in July fell 29% to 1,579 transactions from the 2,231 deals in July, 2021, S&P said. Activity in the consumer sector was particularly hard-hit with $1.78 billion in total deal value, a 93.6% decrease from July, 2021, S&P said.
