Rent-A-Center Inc. said Thursday it was raising its quarterly dividend by 6.9%, to 31 cents a share from 29 cents. The lease-to-own products company's new dividend will be payable Jan. 12 to shareholders of record on Dec. 15. Based on the stock's Wednesday closing price of $34.46, the new annual dividend rate implies a dividend yield of 3.60%, which is well above the implied yield for the S&P 500 /zigman2/quotes/210599714/realtime SPX +0.11% of 1.56%. The stock, which was still inactive in premarket trading, has rallied 19.5% year to date, while the S&P 500 has gained 13.6%.
