Stocks open modestly higher after Tuesday tumble

The tech-heavy Nasdaq on Tuesday led major indexes to the downside, dropping 2.6% and finishing below its 200-day moving average. Bank earnings appeared to help sentiment Wednesday, with shares of Bank of America Corp. /zigman2/quotes/200894270/composite BAC +0.86% and Morgan Stanley /zigman2/quotes/209104354/composite MS +0.75% rising after reporting results.
