The Swiss Basel-Stadt region in northern Switzerland is launching a pilot trial in September of legal cannabis sales, the canton said in a statement, according to reports. Basel-Stadt said the Weed Care study will begin on Sept. 15 with about 400 participants. "The scientific knowledge gained from this provides a basis for discussion for a future responsible cannabis policy," Basel-Stadt said in a statement, as reported by AFP. Swissinfo.ch reported that the prices for six cannabinoid products in nine pharmacies will be comparable to prices in the illegal market. The pilot program was OK'd in April by the Federal Office of Public Health in Switzerland. Other trials are in the works in Zurich, Geneva and Bern.
