Twenty-one House Republicans voted this week against awarding congressional medals to Capitol Police and Metropolitan Police to thank them for their service on Jan. 6, which numerous lawmakers have credited with having saved their lives as a pro–Donald Trump mob stormed the Capitol with the aim of disrupting the congressional certification of Trump’s loss to Joe Biden in the Nov. 3 presidential election.

Biden’s victory in the Electoral College by a margin of 306 to 232 was certified, over the objections of nearly 150 Republican lawmakers , after a lengthy delay to clear the mob from the Capitol.

Dozens of law-enforcement officers suffered injuries, including chemical burns, brain injuries and broken bones. Some may never return to work.
