Wayfair Inc. said Wednesday that it will open three engineering sites in San Francisco, Austin, TX and Toronto, and add 1,000 tech workers to its global tech team in the next year. The new additions will expand the online home retailer's engineering operations beyond the hubs in Boston and Berlin. Roles will include software engineers, infrastructure engineers and product managers. Wayfair currently employs 3,000 engineers and data scientists. The company has been a beneficiary of the accelerated consumer shift to online shopping over the past year, as well as consumer spending on items for the home during COVID-19. Wayfair stock has gained 39.1% for the year to date while the S&P 500 index /zigman2/quotes/210599714/realtime SPX +1.49% is up 10.1% for the period.
