Having sufficient income after your career ends is worrying enough, but you also need to make sure your income grows.

Paul Merriman explains how to estimate how much of a nest egg you will need during retirement, but also provides a flexible withdrawal plan to help you weather storms and avoid running out of money.

Should you flee high taxes?

Between April 1, 2010, and July 1, 2019, the population of Texas increased by 15.3%, while Florida saw a 14.2% increase. Neither Texas nor Florid has a state income tax. Meanwhile, the population of California rose by 6.1% and the population of New York climbed only 0.4% — two states with high income-tax brackets for high earners.

A quick opening up of generic coronavirus vaccines would run counter to drug industry lobbying efforts , writes Victor Reklaitis.

A warning for individual investors

The end of most trading commissions by discount brokers would seem to be good news to individual investors, but Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Gary Gensler has a warning. The “concentration” that can so easily occur in the modern economy — Google’s search dominance, for example — can lead to market distortions that can hurt individual investors and traders. Here’s how he might fix that problem in the stock market .

Mountains, good weather, moderate expenses and the beach

It’s easy to have an impossible retirement wish list, but it’s not a bad way to begin your search — you can compromise later. This week, as part of her Where Should I Retire series, Silvia Ascarelli has suggestions for a couple who are looking to retire in five years and want to be in a mountainous region with mild weather and amenities that isn’t too far from a beach .
