Lexus extended warranty overview

The Lexus Vehicle Service Agreement (VSA) is the brand’s version of an extended warranty. There are three levels of coverage, called Extra Care plans. A VSA warranty can give drivers several years of additional coverage after their original factory warranty expires.

Lexus Extended Warranty Warranty terms Details
Extra Care Platinum  4 years/50,000 miles The most extensive Lexus plan, covering the majority of mechanical breakdowns
Extra Care Gold  4 years/50,000 miles Includes powertrain coverage along with protection for parts like the climate control, steering, fuel system, brakes and more
Extra Care Powertrain 4 years/50,000 miles Covers just the powertrain, including the transmission, axle assembly and engine components

With any of these plans, drivers can choose either a $0 or $100 deductible. The $100 deductible can be waived if covered repairs are performed at the selling dealership.

You’ll likely be offered a Lexus extended warranty when you purchase a vehicle at a dealership, but coverage can be added on at any time before your new car’s factory warranty expires at 4 years/50,000 miles. If you buy a used vehicle, you can add coverage at any point before your car reaches 9 years/125,000 miles.

Lexus VSAs are transferable to subsequent vehicle owners at no cost, although the plan only allows for one transfer. You also have the option to cancel your Lexus extended warranty. You can get a full refund (minus a $50 processing fee) if you cancel within 30 days, and a prorated refund thereafter.

In addition to part repair coverage, Lexus offers the following protection plans:

  • Tire and wheel protection

  • Excess wear and use protection

  • Guaranteed asset protection ( gap insurance )

  • Prepaid maintenance plans

Added benefits

All Extra Care plans come with 24-hour roadside assistance, which includes towing, dead-battery jumps and fuel delivery services. If you’re more than 150 miles from home when your vehicle breaks down, you qualify for travel protection that provides $50 a day for meals and lodging for up to four days while your car is being repaired. Lexus also offers rental car reimbursement up to $35 per day for a maximum of five days while your car is in the shop for a covered repair.

What’s not covered?

Even though the Lexus extended warranty is fairly comprehensive when it comes to replacing parts that have failed due to defects in materials or workmanship, it doesn’t cover everything. Here’s a list of some exclusions outlined in the vehicle service agreement:

  • Bumpers

  • Carpet

  • Car fluids

  • Hoses

  • Spark plugs

  • Tires

  • Windshield wiper blades

  • Wheels and rims

  • Structural framework and welds

Also, all covered repairs must be completed at Lexus dealerships or brand-certified auto shops.

How much does a Lexus extended warranty cost?

As is par for the course with most automakers, Lexus doesn’t readily display the cost of its extended warranty, so you’ll need to contact a local dealership for exact prices. This is because warranty costs are personalized to your specific vehicle. The following factors will all influence the cost of your Lexus extended warranty:
