Build-A-Bear shares soar after earnings blow past expectationsBuild-A-Bear Workshop Inc. stock soared nearly 19% in Wednesday premarket trading after the toy company reported fourth-quarter earnings that were well above expectations. Net income totaled $8.8 million, or 57 cents per share, up from $6.2 million, or 42 cents per share, last year. Adjusted EPS of 47 cents blew past the FactSet consensus for 16 cents. Revenue of $93.7 million was down from $104.6 million but also ahead of the FactSet consensus for $90.5 million. E-commerce sales more than doubled during the quarter, up 104%. Store closures continued to hurt the business, according to a statement from Chief Executive Sharon Price John. Build-A-Bear will offer a collection based on the Nintendo Switch game, Animal Crossing: New Horizons later this quarter, and a movie based on a Build-A-Bear collection, "Honey Girls," is anticipated for a fall release. Build-A-Bear stock has skyrocketed nearly 135% over the past year while the benchmark S&P 500 index is up 34.5% for the period.
