In a statement, Spielberg said discussions with Ted Sarandos, Netflix co-CEO and chief content officer, made it clear he could reach audiences in new ways. "This new avenue for our films, alongside the stories we continue to tell with our longtime family at Universal and our other partners, will be incredibly fulfilling for me personally since we get to embark on it together with Ted, and I can't wait to get started with him, Scott, and the entire Netflix team," Spielberg said. No financial terms were disclosed. Amblin's hit include "Green Book," which won Oscar Best Picture, as well as "1917," which won three Oscars and grossed more than $385 million worldwide. Netflix shares were down 1.3% Monday and have fallen 8.6% in the year to date, while the S&P 500 has gained 12%.
